About the Event

Juneteenth is our country’s second Independence Day. It marks the date that two years after the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, on June 19th 1865 enslaved African Americans were freed from slavery in non-Confederate states. An incredibly important event still celebrated in communities today! There is a lot of history lost in the tragedy of slavery but through agriculture and farming we are able to bring an abundance of that history and culture to our own homes. In this special Juneteenth event led by a FarmerJawn Greenery Horticulturist we will be featuring seeds from our friends at True Love Seeds: African Diaspora Collection and discussing the benefits while sowing seeds of abundance and community. “Sankofa is a Twi word that means go back and get it. It is often associated with a phrase that translates to ‘It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten.’”
